Senior Pastor's Welcome

As you come to Gorsley you will find we are a community of followers of Jesus Christ, committed to live by faith, and be ‘a country church with a heart for the country…as well as our world.’ As followers of Christ we recognise that we are not perfect but just ‘forgiven.’  And as followers of Christ today, we aim to be real people living out our faith in the real world.

We are a country church founded in the 1800’s and our forefathers first met in a blacksmiths shop, since then thousands have come and seen their lives re-focused and re-shaped on the anvil of Christ’s teaching. As a church we seek to be contemporary and up to date, we believe that excellence honours God –and  the last place we want to be is stuck in a time warp!

We believe that Jesus has called each and every one of us to ‘partner’ with Him as ministers in the Kingdom (1 Peter 2:4-12). We believe that the people minister, the pastors and leaders equip. (Eph 4:1-11) Our goal is to have hundred’s of ministers. As lead pastors we are here to equip every member to do ministry.

 PRESS ON!
Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. Rom 12:12
Did you listen to the great debate? I did as we drove home on Thursday night on Radio 4. I think everyone recognised that Nick Clegg might just have ‘it’ whatever ‘it’ might be, however the election will be the only thing that seals it!

Listening to the debate l must admit that l thought what this country needs is a bit of a Churchill figure. But Churchill didn’t just roll off a political conveyor belt, he ‘became’ what he was.
When l get chance l love to read about Churchill, it’s interesting that he changed parties during his political career. He said many things but speaking about success, he defined success as being that. ‘rare ability of when you are struck down being able to pick yourself up and press on.’ When Churchill was at the height of his influence he ‘became what he was’  through the hard knocks and set back’s he suffered. I learned recently that Napoleon was born in abject poverty. In school his friends made fun of him but he devoted himself to his books and excelled in his studies. Eventually he became the brightest student in the school. If a seedling tree has to fight its way up through stones and hard soil to get to sunlight and air, then wrestle with the storm and the frost to survive, its root system will be strong and its timber valuable.
Understand this: it is impossible to succeed without going through adversity. Impossible! There is no success without adversity.
The true test of your character is seeing what it takes to stop you! Dr G Campbell Morgan tells of a man whose shop was burned down in the great Chicago fire. The next morning he arrived at the ruins carrying a table, set it up in the middle of the charred debris and put up a big sign which read, 'Everything lost except wife, children and hope - Business will resume as usual tomorrow morning!' We need that same spirit!

Have a great week
